Hello everyone,
A few months ago, I bought a Hemnes bed from IKEA. Unfortunately, it has recently started squeaking quite annoyingly with every movement in the bedroom. The noises seem to occur mainly at the joints between the wooden parts. I have already tried tightening the screws with an Allen key, but this only helped temporarily.
My question is: What specific steps can be taken to permanently eliminate this squeaking? Which materials are best suited to reduce friction between the wooden parts without compromising stability? Are there any special products or techniques recommended by IKEA or experienced users?
I look forward to precise tips, including advice on common weak points of the Hemnes series. Thank you in advance!

I’m really excited to bring up this topic because I’ve been working on my Hemnes wardrobe for months! You all have great tips here.
I treated the squeaking with a regular furniture wax from the hardware store—not anything special, but very effective! Just apply it to the contact points, spread it evenly, and then tighten the screws again.
Don’t get discouraged; we’ll get it quiet for sure! Sometimes you just have to experiment a bit, but the result is definitely worth it :-)

Do not use oil-based products like machine oil, as they can cause the wood to swell and damage it.That’s an important tip, thanks. I had briefly considered trying regular oil because it’s often recommended for some chairs.

Do you have any advice on how to best remove old wax residues or dirt from the contact surfaces before applying new wax?
Hello,
for cleaning before waxing, I recommend using an alcohol-based cleaner or a mild detergent with warm water. It is important that no residues remain that could soften or cause the wood to become sticky.
After cleaning, allow the surface to dry thoroughly. If you use furniture wax, apply it thinly and evenly, working it well into the wood surface without using too much product. Thick layers of wax can also cause problems.
Good luck with the treatment!

Hey KOLENON and all other squeaky fighters!
Just a thought about the felt pads idea: If you don’t want to leave marks, you can use double-sided, easily removable tape and attach the felt pads to that. This way, removing them later is really easy.
Also, approaching it with a bit of humor never hurts! “My bed now makes its own sound effects” is what I call my squeaky Hemnes 😄.
Good luck, and keep us updated on which method worked best!
