Hello everyone,

I recently noticed that the fronts of my IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets have partially come loose—they have practically popped off. This problem mainly occurred with the larger cabinet doors, which I can no longer secure properly. The Metod fronts are usually quite sturdy, but it seems that the attachment mechanism has failed here.

I’m interested in understanding what might be causing this. Could it be due to incorrect installation, material fatigue, or perhaps the fronts not being properly adjusted?

Above all, I want to know the best way to fix this without having to buy new fronts. Is it possible to repair or replace the existing mechanism? Are there any proven tips for reattaching the fronts securely and permanently?

Thanks in advance for your help and experiences!

Hey Kagau2,

I know the issue with detached Metod fronts, I had to readjust mine as well. Often, it’s caused by the hinges loosening over time due to vibrations or simply from handling.

My advice: just tighten the screws on the hinge properly. But be careful—not too tight, as this can damage the material!

If the screws have already stripped out in the wood, a bit of wood glue or a dowel repair kit can help the screws hold again.

Sometimes the hinge mounts themselves don’t grip properly anymore, so replacing or buying the matching fasteners from IKEA (which are available individually) can help.

So, don’t get discouraged right away—usually this can be fixed quickly 😉 Good luck!

In response to Kagau2’s question about how to deal with detached IKEA Metod cabinet fronts, the following advice applies:

- Check the cause: Usually, the problem is due to loose or damaged hinges and screw connections, or worn dowels or threads in the cabinet carcass.
- Repair: Tighten the screws, or if the thread is stripped, use special repair dowels (wooden dowels or plastic inserts) to restore a secure fixing.
- Spare parts: IKEA often sells hinges and fasteners separately, so a complete replacement is not always necessary.
- Adjustment: Metod fronts have precise adjustment options that should be correctly set during installation to avoid stress and lever-out of the front.

Additionally, ensure cabinets are not overloaded and avoid deformation due to moisture, as these can also affect the fittings. A more detailed diagnosis always depends on the specific condition.

That’s a great question! 😃 From my experience, the adjustment is a huge factor! Often people think the fronts are positioned correctly, but small inaccuracies can cause them to come loose over time. 💪

Also, you can buy replacement hinges if they start to wear out. Just double-check everything, and don’t hesitate to make sure the fronts are perfectly aligned and securely attached!

Exactly! I’ve had really good results with those repair kits. After using them, you almost feel like a professional craftsman. The fronts hold firmly again. So don’t give up, it will get fixed!
