Hello everyone,
I noticed during the installation of my new IKEA METOD kitchen that some of the drill holes on the cabinet sides are noticeably too large. The problem is that as a result, any dowels or connecting fittings no longer fit securely, which can compromise the stability of the structure. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to best handle oversized drill holes in METOD cabinets? For example, how to most effectively reduce the size of such holes or alternative fastening methods that are durable and secure. I want to avoid the cabinets wobbling or eventually coming apart. Thanks in advance for your help!

Oh, that sounds really frustrating if the drill holes for IKEA METOD are too big! But I'm sure you can handle it 🙂
I've had similar issues several times, and the best solution for me was to fill the holes with small wooden pieces or suitable dowels, secure them firmly with wood glue, and then drill again. This makes the joint very stable and also looks neat afterward! Don’t stress, with a bit of patience it will work out great. Good luck! 🙂

I really wonder if we are too focused on the IKEA standard holes instead of reconsidering the entire construction. Perhaps these assembly issues are a symptom of a bigger design problem with METOD?

with a bit of patience, it works great.
