Hello everyone, I have an issue with my new Malm chest of drawers where some drawers suddenly get stuck when closing. It feels like the drawer box is no longer running smoothly along the runners, causing the drawer to jam or not close fully. Does anyone have specific insights into the typical causes of this Malm problem? I have already made sure the runners are clean, but perhaps it’s related to alignment or the installed rollers. Has anyone had experience with solutions to prevent Malm drawers from sticking when closing? I’m especially interested in practical tips or tricks you use to fix this issue permanently.

For troubleshooting, I recommend a systematic approach: 1) Completely remove the drawer. 2) Check the drawer slides for any damage—especially bent metal parts or broken rollers. 3) Clean all components thoroughly, removing dust and dirt. 4) Precisely align the slides on the dresser, adjusting screws as needed. 5) Lightly lubricate movable parts with a suitable dry lubricant, such as PTFE spray or silicone spray. Avoid using oily lubricants, as they attract dust. This method usually resolves the sticking issue.

It is also important to avoid using force. If a drawer sticks, excessive pressure can damage the material. I have had good experiences repositioning the drawer slides: with Malm, the screws are often not fully tightened, and even a slight misalignment can cause the drawer to stick.

One more tip: Make sure to install the drawer correctly. With some models, the drawer needs to be inserted completely straight to lock into place smoothly. If inserted at an angle, it often gets stuck.

Thank you for all the tips! I’ve already taken a closer look at the sliding rails, and some screws did seem slightly loose. Tomorrow, I’ll go through the entire process systematically – removing, tracking, cleaning, and adjusting the alignment. @Deandre wrote:

That’s important, I’ve tried some lubricants before, but dust seemed to stick to them. So definitely better to use silicone spray or PTFE, thanks! If I have more questions, I’ll get back to you.

Just to recap: If the rollers on the track rail are rusted, a little silicone oil spray often helps—don’t use too much. Apply it sparingly.

I wanted to chime in because I recently had the same problem with my Malm dresser. Even after cleaning, the drawer would sometimes stick. The issue turned out to be a slight deformation – I gently straightened the drawer and then put it back in. Since then, it has been sliding much more smoothly. Sometimes a light tap on the side (gently!) helps to realign the rollers before pushing the drawer in. Maybe someone can try this if nothing else works.
