Hello everyone, I have an issue with my new Malm chest of drawers where some drawers suddenly get stuck when closing. It feels like the drawer box is no longer running smoothly along the runners, causing the drawer to jam or not close fully. Does anyone have specific insights into the typical causes of this Malm problem? I have already made sure the runners are clean, but perhaps it’s related to alignment or the installed rollers. Has anyone had experience with solutions to prevent Malm drawers from sticking when closing? I’m especially interested in practical tips or tricks you use to fix this issue permanently.

Most of the time, the drawer slides are slightly bent or dirty. Remove the drawer, check the slides, clean them if necessary, and apply a light lubricant. This often solves the problem.

Also check if the drawer slides are properly engaged. Sometimes the drawer box is not correctly positioned on the runners, which causes it to jam.

I really appreciate how thoroughly you describe it. This sticking issue also occasionally annoys me with our Malm dresser. In my case, it was often a combination of slight dirt buildup and sometimes not sliding the drawer in fairly straight. The feeling when you finally press it and everything moves smoothly again is truly relieving. 🙂

Basically, there are usually two main causes for jamming: either the runners are damaged or no longer properly aligned, or the drawer is warped. To check this, fully remove the drawer and inspect the runners for any deformations or foreign objects. Afterwards, you can apply a lubricant designed for metal gliders (e.g., silicone spray). Be careful not to use oil, as it attracts dust.

Sometimes it helps to tighten the screws on the drawer slides. If they are too loose, everything can shift easily, causing the drawers to stick.
