ᐅ What should you do if MALM drawer hooks are broken?

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the IKEA Malm chest of drawers, specifically about the drawer stops. Recently, the small plastic or metal stops that limit the drawer’s extension or prevent it from being completely pulled out broke on two of my drawers. This is frustrating because the drawer now either gets stuck or falls out completely.

My question is: What options are there to repair or replace these drawer stops (or extension limiters)? Can replacement parts be ordered from IKEA, or are there alternative solutions to make the system functional and safe again?

It would also be important for me to know the best professional way to repair this so that it remains stable and the drawer isn’t damaged.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

A small screwdriver, possibly wall plugs for wood, and a tape measure are needed for assembly.

Exactly, that’s what I would recommend as well. Before drilling the screws, you should definitely double-check the position to avoid damaging or blocking the drawer slides.

Also:

- Avoid aggressive adhesives or plastics that can loosen under stress.
- Regularly check after installation to make sure everything is still firmly in place.

This way, you prevent follow-up damage such as warped fronts or broken runners.

That’s a good tip! I would add that you should never overload the drawer to protect the hooks in the long term.

If you like, you can also apply a protective layer inside the drawer, such as felt pads or similar, to distribute the load across multiple points when pulling it out. This helps everything last longer.

Good luck, and feel free to reach out if you have any more questions! 🙂
