Hello everyone,
I have a problem with the IKEA Metod drawers that I installed a few weeks ago. The drawers do not slide properly; they sometimes stick or can only be opened and closed with significant effort. Specifically, these are the Metod fronts with the Blum drawer slides underneath.
I have already checked whether the drawers are properly aligned and if there are any foreign objects in the sliding system, but that does not seem to be the case. The drawer slides themselves operate quite stiffly, and in some spots there is noticeable sticking.
My question to you: What can I do if IKEA Metod drawers are not sliding smoothly? Are there any tried-and-tested tips or adjustments I should check or apply? Do I possibly need to replace the drawer slides completely, or is there a better maintenance or adjustment procedure?
I would appreciate any advice or shared experience!

You should use lubricants sparingly but precisely. I prefer special silicone sprays or grease that are good for the tracks.Thank you for your detailed advice, PeoDaniel! I have tried a bit of silicone spray by now, which definitely helps, but in some spots there is still some resistance — as if the track is slightly warped or too tight at a certain point.
I will measure carefully again with a spirit level, even if it’s not obvious from the outside. Thanks also to everyone else for the adjustment tips!
If that doesn’t work, my next step would probably be a complete replacement of the tracks. Does anyone have experience whether standard drawer slides are compatible? Or is it necessary to use Ikea’s original parts?

Does anyone here have experience with whether this is also compatible with standard Blum drawer runners?I installed Blum drawer runners from a different supplier in a similar situation and had no problems.
It’s important that the dimensions fit exactly—especially the depth and width of the drawer slides as well as the mounting points in the cabinet carcass.
Sometimes the hole spacing differs, so I recommend first measuring carefully and then selecting compatible products precisely (it’s best to compare technical datasheets).
Original Blum parts from Ikea are, however, best matched to the METOD series, which can make troubleshooting much easier. If you approach the task with some basic DIY skills, swapping to alternatives works fine as well.
