Hello everyone,
I have an issue with the assembly hardware from Ikea for the Metod system – some of the dowels and connecting screws for one of my cabinets were damaged or bent during assembly. This is making the build difficult, and I’m wondering what the best way is to get replacement parts or if you have any recommendations for alternative fasteners that might work.
Do you have experience with damaged Ikea Metod assembly hardware? How can replacements be arranged, especially if you can’t visit an Ikea store directly? Or are there compatible screws and dowels that can be purchased independently? I would appreciate any advice.

It's interesting how often Ikea customers still try to use alternative fasteners—I generally find that risky.
Sometimes there’s too much experimenting here, even though there is a clear solution for this kind of thing. Getting replacements from Ikea is the right way to go—no shortcuts.
zarJody68 schrieb:That’s really sensible. So why not just reorder the parts directly from Ikea?
Make sure to note the exact product number and, if possible, the name of the specific connectors to make searching easier.

Thank you for your feedback!
To clarify: I have the product numbers on hand and just wanted to know if anyone has experience with the replacement process or if there are any significant restrictions when shipping replacement parts (for example, minimum order quantities, waiting times).
Has anyone received replacements entirely online, outside of the physical Ikea store? Does that work reliably, and how long does it usually take?

Hello dubla,
I have ordered my replacement parts online several times.
- The ordering process is straightforward
- You enter the item number and can even select individual screw packs
- Delivery usually takes 3–5 business days
- Items are often shipped in a separate package, and you receive a tracking number
Sometimes certain parts are out of stock, but overall it is reliable. A quick call to customer service beforehand can sometimes help to check availability and prepare the order.

Has anyone ever received a replacement part completely through online ordering rather than at a physical Ikea store? Does it work reliably, and how long does it usually take? From my experience, I recommend ordering even small replacement parts from Ikea online as the standard approach.
Delivery times are quite predictable, usually within one week. However, if time is critical, it’s better not to wait for replacement parts but to check availability directly in the store.
It’s best to have the replacement part numbers ready to ensure a smooth process.

I had the same issue once – a batch of small parts was defective. I simply ordered replacement parts from Ikea’s online shop, and they arrived after 4 days.
A quick tip: Definitely keep the box with the parts – it really helps when ordering later 😊
The whole process is really easy and stress-free. Remember: assembly hardware is crucial for stability, so don’t try to save money or improvise, or you might end up with crooked cabinets.
