Hello everyone,
I am currently facing an issue with my new IKEA Brimnes furniture piece, where screws that are obviously essential for assembly are missing. Specifically, these are the small Phillips screws used to attach the side panels. Since the furniture cannot be properly assembled without these screws, I would like to know the best way to handle this situation.
I have already checked whether they might be in another bag or if replacement parts can be easily ordered, but so far I haven’t found a satisfactory solution.
I am especially interested if anyone has experience with the best way to replace these screws, or if IKEA provides quick and hassle-free replacements. I am also concerned about whether using non-original screws might cause stability problems, or if screws with similar specifications would be suitable.
I look forward to your tips and advice!

I generally recommend first systematically checking the package contents for missing parts, especially screws, which are sometimes hidden in small bags that can be easily overlooked. If screws are indeed missing, the following options are available:
- IKEA spare parts service: IKEA offers a well-organized spare parts service where missing screws can usually be ordered free of charge. It is best to have the item number and purchase receipt ready for this.
- Replacement screws from a hardware store: If you decide to use replacement screws from a hardware store—such as Phillips head screws M4 or M5 of the correct length—it is crucial to know the exact dimensions of the original screws (length, thread, head size). Incorrect screws can affect stability or damage the material.
- Check alternatives: If unusual screws are required, custom screws can also be made at speciality stores.
One more thing: The Brimnes series often uses screws combined with PVC washers or self-tapping screws that are not easily replaced. Therefore, I recommend waiting for the original part rather than improvising, especially when it concerns load-bearing elements.
How long have you been waiting, and have you contacted IKEA customer service?

Therefore, I recommend waiting for the original part whenever possible and not improvising, especially when it comes to load-bearing elements. I agree with that. Additionally, I recommend contacting the nearest IKEA spare parts service online. They can usually ship replacement parts quickly and without complications. In case the shipping takes too long, it is advisable to inquire with local hardware specialists for furniture fittings who may have the appropriate fasteners available.
Regarding stability: Deviations in screw type or size can cause material damage or an insecure fit, especially since IKEA furniture often uses thin engineered wood panels.

Contact IKEA directly; they usually offer free replacements. Just provide the serial number of the furniture. If you need a quick fix, temporarily assemble it using similar screws from a hardware store. Thanks, I have done that by now, and the replacement is on the way. However, I’m still interested: if you do use screws from a hardware store, what dimensions should you generally consider to avoid compromising stability? Do you have any experience with replacement screws for Brimnes?

If you end up using screws from a hardware store, which dimensions should generally be considered to avoid compromising stability? In general, for Brimnes furniture:
- Screws should have the same diameter (usually M4 or M5)
- The length must be exactly the same or slightly shorter to prevent damage or puncturing
- The thread type must match, typically metric fine thread
- Head size and type (Phillips, cross-slot, Torx) should closely match the original for easy installation
I recommend having an original screw for comparison if possible to ensure accuracy.
Have you already measured the missing screws so we can help more specifically?
