ᐅ What to do if Ikea BRIMNES drawers do not slide properly?

Good evening everyone, I recently purchased the Ikea Brimnes chest of drawers set and noticed during assembly that the drawers do not slide smoothly. Specifically, the drawers do not pull out easily and sometimes stick, especially when fully opening or closing. It feels like the runners are not perfectly aligned or something is causing friction. I have already checked whether the screws are too tight or too loose, but the drawers still catch. Do you know what is typically done to fix this issue? Are there known weak points in the BRIMNES drawers regarding smooth operation? Thanks in advance for any concrete tips on how to check and possibly adjust them.

If sticking continues after adjustment, a light drop of silicone spray (no oil!) on the running rails can help

Thanks, I’ll try that! I didn’t realize oil could actually be harmful. I will remove the rails again, clean them thoroughly, and then use silicone spray specifically.

Foreign particles or paint residues blocking the rails

This advice also makes sense. I bought the furniture from Ikea fully assembled, so maybe dust settled on the rails during packing or transport.

I will report back on how effective the measures were!

In addition to the good tips already shared, here are some points from my experience:

- Sometimes the plastic runners on the edges of the drawers are worn out or bent, which can significantly affect how smoothly they slide.
- If possible, replace them or carefully straighten them.
- For some Brimnes models, the depth adjustment of the drawer slide is important for the final stop behavior. Check whether the slide is not positioned too far inside or outside.
- A drawer installed at an angle can easily get stuck when opening.

These details are often crucial, as the standard Blum or metal slides in all Ikea furniture are mechanically similar.
