ᐅ What to do if Ikea Besta drawers no longer slide smoothly?

Hello everyone, I have been experiencing an issue for some time now with the drawers of my Ikea Besta cabinets not sliding properly. Specifically, they either catch, feel stiff, or sometimes only move with a strong pull when opening and closing. The drawer slides themselves look undamaged from the outside, but I suspect that the rollers might be worn out or that dirt has accumulated. Does anyone know this problem or have experience with what the best approach is in such a case? I would like to know whether a repair is worthwhile, if it makes sense to get replacement parts, or if the entire mechanism might need to be replaced. Thanks in advance for any tips and advice!

First, you should remove the rails completely to be able to clean them thoroughly.

Thanks, that's what I planned too, but I wanted to avoid damaging any part of the mechanism during removal. Is it complicated or fairly straightforward with the Ikea Besta system? Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of?

Thanks for the offer, I’ll gladly take it if I get stuck. For now, everything is still in place, so I’ll give it a try.

The installation with Ikea Besta is simple. Pull out the drawer and release the levers or clips on the sides of the runners. Then, the runners can be pulled out. Be careful not to bend anything during this process. Afterwards, clean and replace if necessary.

Additionally, you can check if the drawer runners are still straight. Warping causes resistance. Replacement parts are readily available at Ikea; just remember the model number.

Removing the drawer is straightforward, and Ikea provides detailed step-by-step instructions in the assembly manual. It’s important to fully unlock the clips, otherwise the runners can be damaged. You should be careful but not overly cautious, so you don’t apply unnecessary force to the mechanism. I definitely recommend emptying the drawer completely before removal, as this makes the process much easier.

That’s correct, the replacement parts are also reasonably priced. It’s worth noting down the exact number of the drawer slide to order the correct one.
