Hello everyone, I’ve had an ongoing issue with the drawers of my Malm chest of drawers squeaking whenever I pull them out or push them in. The noise is quite annoying, especially as it’s getting louder over time. I’ve been using the chest of drawers for several years and have cleaned it before, but the squeaking persists. Does anyone have good tips or proven methods to eliminate the drawer squeaking? What could be the causes, and what should I pay attention to when trying to fix it? Thanks in advance for your experiences and suggestions!

Sometimes the plastic rollers on the guide rails are worn out or damaged, which can also cause squeaking noises.

That's a good point. I checked the rollers in my setup and found they were unevenly worn. After replacing them, the problem completely disappeared. Replacement parts at IKEA are affordable.

A quick update from my side: Yesterday, I completely removed the drawers, cleaned the slides, and treated them with silicone spray. I also inspected the guide rails along with the rollers and replaced two rollers because they had small cracks. The squeaking is now much quieter, almost gone. I’m surprised at how effective the cleaning and maintenance were. Thanks again for the very helpful tips here – they really made a difference!

Good job! Regularly maintaining your furniture helps prevent major repairs later on. I recommend doing this every few months, especially if the drawers are used frequently.

Glad to hear it worked! This thread shows once again that maintenance and care really offer simple solutions – and a little time is worth it.

If it is completely gone, then everything was done correctly. Personally, I always use thin silicone spray for lubrication, which has worked best for me so far with Malm.

One more question: Are there any risks associated with using silicone spray on the guides? I have read that some recommend other products or even dry lubricants. It is important to me that the material is not damaged and that the feel does not change. What should be particularly considered in this regard?
