Hello everyone, I recently purchased the IKEA Brimnes drawer unit with multiple drawers and want to organize it as efficiently as possible to ensure both order and quick access to various everyday items. Since the drawers are not very deep but relatively wide, I have several questions about the ideal way to use the inside space: What tips are there specifically for organizing these Brimnes drawers? What type of divider systems or containers fit well inside? How can the drawer space be used best without having to constantly reorganize? Are there any recommendations for separating small items from larger ones or for optimally dividing the drawers into different categories? My usage is quite versatile – ranging from clothing to stationery, as well as cables and small tools. I’m really looking forward to your experiences and tips to help me make the most of the available storage capacity.

As a basic recommendation for IKEA Brimnes drawers, use modular organizing boxes that fit well in width, such as small plastic or fabric boxes about 10–15cm (4–6 inches) wide with variable depth. For separation, flexible dividers or inserts work best, as they can be easily arranged to create smaller compartments. A tip: for cables and small tools, use shallow boxes to avoid overfilling the drawer and to keep things organized. For clothing, I usually use shallow fabric boxes with adjustable fabric dividers. Additionally, I recommend organizing items by category and frequency of use, keeping things you need often higher up or in the top drawer. This helps prevent unnecessary rearranging.

I have the Brimnes dresser myself and use a combination of different organizing boxes: For smaller items like pens, chargers, batteries, and tools, I use various small plastic containers that fit well inside the drawers. It's important that the boxes are not too tall, so there is room for a second "layer" or several smaller containers placed one behind the other. This way, the entire drawer volume can be used efficiently.

I completely agree with that.

Additionally, I recommend checking the organization regularly and avoiding stacking too much in one drawer, as this quickly leads to clutter. I prefer to store clothes folded and organized in the lower drawers, while keeping office and workshop supplies in the upper ones.

Standard fabric or plastic drawer organizers are ideal for the Brimnes drawers. Small containers can be used for cables, medium ones for clothing. It is important not to place too many small items loose inside, as it can become messy. It is best to plan in advance what will go into each drawer and to separate everything by category.

You can set up an efficient organization system for the IKEA Brimnes drawers in just a few steps:

- First, completely empty the drawers and measure them carefully. Brimnes typically has an interior width of about 90 cm (35 inches) and a depth of approximately 43 cm (17 inches).
- Next, I recommend getting modular organizer boxes or shallow storage containers in various sizes that you can choose based on the internal dimensions.
- For wider areas, long boxes work well to make the most of the space.
- For small items (such as cables, pens, tools), use divider grids or small compartment boxes that you can either place directly in the drawers or assemble.
- When folding clothes, use the "vertical folding technique" so they stand upright in the drawer and you can see everything at a glance.

For this, I advise creating divisions that perfectly match your habits. Label the boxes if necessary so other family members can follow the organization system. It’s also helpful to assign one category per drawer, for example, clothes in the bottom drawer, office supplies in the middle, tools on top.

This saves time and helps maintain order in the long term.
