Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the care and cleaning of IKEA Metod kitchen fronts with a matte finish. Specifically, I’m interested in effective and gentle methods to keep the fronts clean and, above all, undamaged over time. Since matte finishes can be prone to scratches and stains, I would like to know which cleaning products or maintenance techniques are best suited for this and which mistakes should definitely be avoided. Perhaps there are also special tools or home remedies that have proven useful in everyday use? I would greatly appreciate any practical tips or experiences on how to extend the lifespan of matte finishes.

For the care of IKEA Metod matte lacquer fronts, I recommend a structured approach. Matte lacquer is sensitive to aggressive cleaners and mechanical stress. - Use only mild cleaning agents, ideally pH-neutral or specially formulated products for painted surfaces. - Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or solvent-based products, as these can damage the matte finish. - Use soft microfiber cloths or very soft sponges that do not cause scratching for cleaning. - Remove dirt as soon as possible and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture. - For stubborn stains, a mixture of warm water and a small amount of dish detergent applied again with a soft cloth can help. Wipe the surface dry afterward. - Polishing or waxing is not recommended for matte lacquer, as this can create unwanted glossy spots. I also suggest regular gentle cleaning rather than infrequent intense cleaning. This helps preserve the matte texture and appearance over time.

Exactly! I would also add: Avoid scrubbing pads and stiff brushes! It’s better to handle the surfaces more gently. 😊

I have developed a small routine: A soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth with a mild all-purpose cleaner (use sparingly!) usually does the trick. Don’t make it too wet, or moisture will seep into the edges – which can cause ugly water marks or even damage.

Sometimes I use a simple home remedy: a splash of vinegar essence in the water for light degreasing, but not too often, as it can wear down the surface.

And the most important thing: always wipe in the direction of the grain or texture of the surface, so the matte finish looks its best.

Regarding the risk of damage to matte finishes, I’ve found that less is more – gentle care ensures long-lasting satisfaction!

I clean my Metod matt lacquer fronts like this: warm water with a little dish soap, a soft cloth, wipe once, then immediately dry with another cloth. No harsh cleaners or scrubbing. It works great and causes no problems.

This is an important point. Matte lacquer is more durable than you might think, but acidic substances like vinegar or citric acid should only be used sparingly and with caution, as they can damage the finish.

For thorough and safe cleaning, I would recommend the following procedure:

- Start with a dust-free surface (remove dust with a dry, soft cloth, as dust particles can act as abrasives).
- For everyday dirt, a mild dish soap in lukewarm water, applied with a very soft microfiber cloth, is suitable.
- Never rub with pressure; use only gentle, circular motions.
- Dry the surfaces immediately with a dry, lint-free cloth to prevent water spots.
- For greasy stains, a mixture of lukewarm water and a very mild cleaner—preferably synthetic cleaners with a neutral pH—is recommended.
- Avoid mechanical tools like rough sponges or brushes.

If you are interested: matte lacquer is essentially a polymer film that adheres to the surface. Chemicals or mechanical abrasion can damage this film, which then causes discoloration and glossy spots. That’s why gentle care is important.

Do you notice differences depending on your usage? For example, a household with children or heavy kitchen activity? Depending on the level of wear, cleaning routines can be adjusted accordingly.
