canberk6825 Aug 2021 18:23Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to assemble several Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets at my home. Since I already know that good teamwork is especially important for this kind of furniture, I would like to specifically ask: What useful tips and experiences are there for assembling Ikea Metod cabinets with two people?
I am particularly interested in advice on division of work, preparation, handling the often delicate parts, and how to avoid common pitfalls. Also, does anyone have recommendations on organizing the assembly process to make it as efficient as possible and ensure that everything is stable in the end?
I look forward to any tips and practical advice!

Great topic! Assembling Metod cabinets is much more enjoyable and definitely faster when done with two people. Here are my key tips:
- Start by organizing all parts and tools well. This way, you won’t waste time searching!
- Use a large, clear workspace so you can prepare the modules in parallel.
- One person should handle the screws and fittings, while the other aligns and holds the panels in place.
- Communicate constantly! This helps avoid frustration if a side is installed incorrectly.
- The division of tasks often happens naturally: while one person assembles the main structure, the other can pre-assemble drawers or doors.
I can only say: if you coordinate well, even complicated parts go together smoothly and it’s really fun! Good luck – you’ve got this!!

Communicate constantly! This way you avoid frustration if a part is positioned incorrectly. This is an important point. Additionally, I recommend the following structured approach for assembling Ikea Metod cabinets with two people:
- First, sort all parts and organize them according to the steps in the assembly instructions.
- Preparing screws and fittings in small bowls or containers makes them easier to access.
- Clearly define roles before starting: for example, one person gathers the load-bearing parts and holds them during assembly, while the other actually assembles.
- Use tools such as a cordless drill with adjustable torque settings to prevent overtightening and damage.
- Regularly check the right angles with a spirit level to ensure nothing is warped at the end.
- For larger units, a second helper can assist in stabilizing the pieces during screwing.
This systematic way of working minimizes common mistakes and ensures a safe and neat result.
I would like to add the following:
- Assemble cabinets on a soft surface to avoid damaging the edges.
- Do not fully tighten screws immediately; first, tighten them lightly and only fully tighten at the very end.
- Always test the individual functions of doors and drawers before proceeding.
This approach worked best for me.

As a preparation, all parts should be sorted and arranged according to the steps in the assembly instructions. That’s absolutely true! And I would add: a little humor helps as well! With so many screws and components, it’s easy to lose track. If you can smile along the way, it makes the process much easier.
Another tip from my experience: take your time with the first cabinets you assemble. When a second person thinks along and you work together, even the tricky parts become manageable.
Also, it’s more fun if each of you takes responsibility for a specific section – this way you quickly build up a routine. You’ll see, the modules come together fast and in the end, you’ll have a really stylish kitchen!
