Hello dear house building forum community,
We are currently considering how large our shower should be. It will definitely be a tiled shower. Initially, we planned for 120cm x 90cm (47 inches x 35 inches). Now we are thinking about going for 120cm x 120cm (47 inches x 47 inches), as we would prefer a larger shower. Are there any experiences, suggestions, or criticism regarding the shower size?
The bathroom is 2.88m x 3.72m (9.4 ft x 12.2 ft) in size.

There would be enough space. I just don’t like the layout. When lying in the bathtub, your head is level with the toilet, and when sitting on the toilet, you see yourself in the bathroom mirror above the washbasin. Is it really that bad? How large does the bathroom need to be to prevent seeing the toilet from the bathtub? Unfortunately, using a partition wall is difficult because of the window.
What’s the problem with the mirror and the toilet? That’s my best side :-)

We didn’t want a door or glass, so we needed a bit more space. That’s why the shower area ended up being 1.20 m x 1.60 m (4 feet x 5 feet 3 inches) purely as the shower zone. We also installed a large concealed rain shower head. The width was chosen because we have 120 cm x 60 cm (47 inches x 24 inches) tiles laid horizontally on both the floor and the wall.
By the way, are those lime deposits on the dark tiles in the shower tray? And how do you assess the susceptibility of dark tiles to lime scale and dirt? At least I don’t see any on the wall. ;-)
Oh, we should clean again soon 😱
No, this is an old photo from the construction phase 😉 So far, we haven’t had any problems with lime deposits. We do have quite soft water, but the tiles are still easy to clean. Usually, the grout is the real issue, so we wanted to minimize it as much as possible. The only grout line that’s really tough to clean is the one between the drain channel and the first tile, but that would be there anyway. At first, we considered using one large XXL tile for the wall, but when the tile installer heard that idea, he almost strangled us. So we went with the mentioned 120 x 60 cm (47 x 24 inches) tile instead.
