For many here, the design of the kitchen and furniture is important, as well as lighting, color schemes, and interior decoration. Facades and gardens are also designed. All of this is culture, just like, for example, paintings and sculptures.
Is visual art given this level of importance in your home life?

You have to take it when you see something you like. It can be at an exhibition, in an artist’s studio, or even at an art market while on vacation. Having a piano in the house is also nice, of course only if someone can play it.
But please, no Beethoven busts 😉
We have a colorful mix of IKEA prints (though fewer now, that trend seems to be fading), a guestbook photo from our wedding, and some limited-edition wooden prints that are both aesthetically pleasing and personally meaningful to us. I’m not a fan of prints of famous paintings or similar. In my opinion, sculptures are a tricky subject; they can easily come across as pretentious or tacky.

My wife also talks about sculptures and kitsch, but I have a bit of a weakness for that, and I don’t mind if it’s a bit quirky. However, there are limits for me when it comes to both paintings and sculptures. Michelangelo’s Pietà in St. Peter’s Basilica moves me to tears, but it doesn’t belong in the living room. The Creation of Adam by him in the Sistine Chapel is simply awe-inspiring, but as a poster print on the wall from a poster shop, it’s just misplaced. Some things are simply either original or not at all, because the original also includes the place where it is embedded.
A piano with a bust of Beethoven, in my opinion, can be quite fun—especially if someone can play a few bars of the master’s music. Karsten

I am an aesthete and, as a photographer, very particular when it comes to images. Since I am extremely critical, we have few pictures on the walls. A canvas is left out in the open, waiting to be painted. I used to be good at that, but now I’m hesitant because I’m afraid I won’t be satisfied with the result myself.
A few stone sculptures (larger stones with faces) are placed or standing quietly in the garden, subtly among the greenery.
Pre-made pictures without personality would be a no-go for me.
