MAARTEMIS122 Jan 2023 18:23I have an issue with an IKEA Platsa door that has warped over time. Specifically, the door no longer closes properly and appears to be misaligned on one edge, so it functions but doesn’t close flush. Has anyone had experience with this and can suggest the best way to fix it? I have already tried adjusting the screws on the hinges, but that made little difference. Are there any special adjustment techniques or common mistakes during installation that can cause this kind of warping? I would appreciate concrete tips, as I want to restore the door myself with minimal effort.

Does anyone have experience with how to fix this best?Hey, this is a common issue with PLATSA doors! Sometimes it helps to fully loosen all the hinges, realign the door, and then tighten the screws again. You can easily adjust whether the door presses more inward or outward this way.
It’s also important to check the hinges for proper function – they often have small screws for fine-tuning. If you still have the original plates or spacers, definitely try using a small piece of cardboard or something similar as a shim.
Honestly: IKEA is great, but when it comes to doors, precise hinge solutions are often compromised, so sometimes a little DIY is the best fix 😅. Good luck!
A warped PLATSA door can have various causes. First, I would check the hinges: there are usually three adjustment screws on the hinges that allow you to align the door vertically, in depth, and laterally.
- First, check if the hinges are properly attached to both the cabinet frame and the door.
- Loosen the screws carefully, adjust the door to be as straight as possible, and then tighten everything again.
- Sometimes it helps to take the door off briefly to see if the hinges might be bent or if the door is swelling slightly due to moisture.
If the cabinet frame itself is not perfectly level or square, this can also cause warping. A ruler or spirit level can help you check this.
If you like, we can go through the individual steps together.

IKEA is great, but they often cut corners on precise hinge solutions for the doorsThat’s true, but I don’t think that’s the main cause of the problem. PLATSA is modular, and often the carcass isn’t secured tightly enough or assembled on an uneven surface. The carcass usually rests on a substrate that can warp. This causes the door to pull, especially as it gets older or is exposed to changing loads.
In my opinion, you shouldn’t just focus on the door hinges, but check the entire frame. The wall the furniture is placed against and the type of installation can also have an impact.
Are there any signs of stress on the connectors between the elements? If so, you should release these “pressure points,” otherwise the warping will become permanent.
What helps with warped doors is precise adjustment of the hinges using the three adjustment options:
- Height adjustment: Changes the position of the door up or down.
- Side adjustment: Moves the door closer to or further from the cabinet/frame, correcting lateral warping.
- Depth adjustment: Adjusts the gap between the door and the cabinet/frame.
Often it is advisable to remove the door for adjusting the hinges individually. If the door is warped, pay attention to any tension in the wood – slight sanding at the edges can sometimes help.
Finally, check with a spirit level whether the cabinet/frame itself is straight and properly secured.
