Good morning everyone,
I recently started having a problem with one of the doors on my Pax wardrobe occasionally sticking. Specifically, it’s the right door, which no longer closes smoothly and locks into place, and it often catches on the upper hinge side when opening.
I suspect the issue is either due to the door’s alignment or a misadjustment of the hinges.
My question to you: What should I do if a Pax door is sticking? What troubleshooting and repair steps do you recommend in this situation?
I have already tried checking the hinge screws, but so far without success.
I would appreciate any helpful and precise advice, as I want to fix the problem myself before calling a professional.
Thank you in advance!

This sounds like a solvable problem! 🎉
First of all: Don’t panic, a sticking Pax door is not the end of the world! Often, it’s just an issue with the hinge adjustment. My first tip would be: take a close look at the top and bottom hinge mounting. Usually, you can adjust the hinges quite easily with a screwdriver.
- Open the door slightly
- Carefully adjust the screws, either left, right, up, or down
- Make only small adjustments at a time and test how the door behaves in between
If the door was working well before, it’s often just a matter of minutes until you get a perfect adjustment. You can do it! 👍

You can usually adjust the hinges quite easily with a screwdriver.I would like to agree and add: For Pax doors, it is important to first open the hinge cover to access the adjustment screws. These are often adjustable in three directions – horizontally, vertically, and in depth.
I recommend the following procedure:
- First, check the horizontal adjustment so that the door sits parallel to the cabinet.
- Next, adjust the vertical setting to correct the door’s height alignment.
- Finally, make the depth adjustment so the door closes flush and does not stick.
If the problem persists despite adjustments, it’s worth checking that the hinge screws and cabinet screws are securely fastened. Loose fittings can also cause sticking.
Sometimes the issue is due to a warped door panel, but this is less common.
I hope this methodical guide is helpful.

I have already tried checking the hinge screws, but so far without success. In such cases, I recommend the following systematic approach:
- First, use a spirit level to check if the cabinet and door are properly aligned. Even a slight misalignment can cause sticking.
- Open the hinge cover and adjust the twelve o’clock, three o’clock, and six o’clock screws for vertical, horizontal, and depth alignment.
- Make small adjustments to the door step by step, carefully observing each change.
- Inspect the door panel for warping, cracks, or distorted edges.
- Also check the side panel of the cabinet on the hinge side for any deformation or damage.
If no adjustment leads to improvement, it may be necessary to inspect or possibly replace the hinge.
This systematic method is the most effective way to resolve sticking issues in a lasting manner.
