Hello everyone, I’m currently working on installing the IKEA Platsa doors and want to make sure they fit perfectly in the end. My question is: What specific adjustments and settings on the hinges and doors are necessary to achieve a clean, even gap on all sides, so that the doors are neither too loose nor sticking anywhere? I have read that there are several adjustment screws serving different functions, but I’m missing a clear overview of which screw is responsible for which correction and the best way to proceed. I’m especially interested in whether there is a recommended sequence for the adjustments or any useful tips to consider when dealing with uneven walls or slight dimensional deviations. Thanks in advance for your advice!

For optimal adjustment of the PLATSA doors, it is essential to understand the functions of the three main adjustment screws on the hinges: - The top screw is used for height adjustment to align the door vertically. - The middle screw allows for lateral adjustment, meaning horizontal alignment and minor differences when closing. - The bottom screw controls the depth, that is the distance to the cabinet edge and whether the door closes flush or slightly overlaps. My advice: first adjust the height, then the lateral position, and finally check the depth. Perform these steps carefully and gradually, preferably with small trial turns and repeatedly checking the gap measurements. For uneven walls, it can be helpful to stabilize the cabinet further with shims to ensure a lasting good fit of the door.

Set height, width, and depth in this order. Use a level for even spacing. Adjust screws only slightly each time and check repeatedly.

I want to take a more structured approach and explain the common mistakes when adjusting PLATSA doors.

1. Height adjustment: This is often forgotten or done incorrectly first. To correct it, turn the upper hinge screw slightly to align the door horizontally without it rubbing.

2. Side adjustment: This requires patience. Use the middle screw to position the door so that the gap between the door and the cabinet is even on both the left and right sides. Mistakes here usually result in crooked doors or uneven gaps.

3. Depth adjustment: The lower screw controls whether the door is flush or slightly protruding. It is often overtightened, causing the door to stick or not close properly. My advice: always make small adjustments and tighten the hinges securely after aligning.

For beginners, it can be helpful to adjust the door with two people – one holds the door in the correct position while the other makes the adjustments.

I find it a bit confusing that everyone only talks about the three screws. Are there specific instructions from IKEA that define these screws exactly like that? Or is this based on personal experience? I think it is important to understand the hinge mechanism before making any adjustments blindly. I really appreciate Benge5’s suggestion regarding washers for uneven walls. Without proper cabinet stabilization, you will probably spend a lot of time adjusting the hinges but never achieve a perfect fit. Therefore, my question is: How well is your PLATSA cabinet pre-aligned? Are the side panels perfectly squared? I suspect that door adjustments often compensate for cabinet issues, which is more of a workaround than a proper solution.

That is actually the key point – IKEA hinges are standardized, so the three screws work the same way on PLATSA as on other models. However, you should keep in mind that PLATSA includes several hinge variants (e.g., corner or sliding doors) which may require different adjustments.

Regarding the usual steps:
- First, make sure the cabinet frame is completely level. Although this isn’t just a fine-weather issue, without this foundation, all other adjustments will be of little help.
- Then adjust each door individually using the three screws, as described.
- A common mistake is to turn all screws too much at once, which can destabilize the door alignment. It’s better to make small adjustments gradually.

For PLATSA doors: take care rather than rush, and the fit will be right.
