Hello everyone, I have an issue with my Ikea Hemnes drawer chest where some drawers are difficult to pull out and sometimes get stuck. I suspect that the drawer slides or runners are no longer working properly. Therefore, my question to the community is: What repair tips are there for Ikea Hemnes drawers to restore smooth operation? Are there proven methods to fix running problems, or parts that can be easily replaced? I look forward to useful advice and practical experiences!

A lubricating but wax-based product like paraffin or a special furniture wax provides better sliding properties. Important: Do not lubricate with oil,Thanks for the tip! Could you briefly explain why oil is unsuitable? I would have assumed that something like oil, similar to WD-40, might help. Also, which replacement parts are compatible if I need to change the rails? Are there standard dimensions for the Hemnes wardrobe?

Could you briefly explain why oil is not suitable?Especially for wood and plastic guides, oil attracts dust and fibers, which over time leads to even rougher sliding tracks. Grease or wax creates a dry, lubricating film that repels dirt more effectively.
Regarding spare parts: Unfortunately, Ikea does not offer individual drawer slides for Hemnes as replacement parts—only complete drawer units. Many people use universal telescopic drawer slides with full extension, which can be found at hardware stores. These are usually available in lengths of 30, 40, or 50 cm (12, 16, or 20 inches). It is important to measure the slides accurately and ensure they fit the cabinet’s internal dimensions. Minor adjustments to the wood may require some basic woodworking skills.

It is more common that the drawers swell due to moisture or that wood shrinkage causes misalignment.I hadn’t considered that at all. I live in an older house with relatively high humidity levels during winter. So it could be that the wood’s expansion and contraction is affecting how the drawers slide. How can this be resolved without completely replacing the drawers? Are there sealants or other solutions available?
