Hello everyone, I recently bought an IKEA Hemnes bedroom set and noticed that some assembly materials and parts were missing. My question is: What process do you follow when parts are missing or damaged during the assembly of the IKEA Hemnes furniture range? Specifically, I am interested in the best way to quickly and easily reorder or replace missing screws, dowels, or panels. It would also be helpful to know if you have experience with how reliable IKEA’s customer service is in such cases and if there are any useful tips to resolve the issue without a lot of time involved.

Hello leonmo, thank you for your detailed question. If any parts are missing from IKEA HEMNES items, the first step is to precisely identify the missing components and carefully review the original packaging and assembly instructions to ensure nothing is overlooked. Afterwards, you should contact IKEA directly—either in-store or by phone—and reach out to their customer service. IKEA usually offers a replacement service for missing or defective parts. IMPORTANT: Be sure to have the article number and a clear description of the missing part ready, as this makes communication much easier.

In my experience, they usually respond quickly and send the missing screws or parts free of charge. If you ordered online, you can often request replacement parts through your customer account as well.

If it’s urgent, I have sometimes purchased replacement parts at a hardware store when the screws were standard sizes. However, this does not work for special connectors or custom-cut components.

In general: stay calm and document everything—photos, receipts, list of missing parts—as this is very helpful when making a claim.

Simply call IKEA or visit the nearest furniture store to report missing parts. They usually send replacements free of charge. Be patient, as it can sometimes take a few days.

The most efficient way to handle missing parts in the IKEA HEMNES range is as follows:

- First, check all delivered parts against the enclosed packing list.
- Clearly identify the missing parts (for example, screw number 35 or side panel).
- Request replacement parts through the official IKEA hotline or website.

It is important to verify the accuracy of the item numbers to avoid delays.

IKEA’s customer service is generally reliable and usually responds promptly, with delivery times for replacement parts typically ranging from 3 to 10 business days.

Alternatively, standard screws, dowels, or simple connectors can be replaced locally if their dimensions and load capacity match the originals. However, this is not recommended for load-bearing elements or specially manufactured parts.

Finally, I recommend keeping all communication in writing via email and having all necessary documents ready to be prepared in case of any follow-up questions.

This is a very important note! Especially with HEMNES, which is often made from solid, sturdy wood, using incorrect replacement parts can cause stability issues. It’s better to wait for original parts, even if it takes a bit longer.

That’s right, IKEA should be given priority before resorting to DIY solutions. They are able to provide precisely fitting replacement parts and handle claims easily. The key, as already mentioned, is to keep track of the missing parts.
