Hello everyone, I am currently looking into furniture quality more closely and have a specific question: What problems tend to occur with Ikea Hemnes desks when used over a longer period of time? I am especially interested in aspects such as material quality, everyday stability, structural weaknesses, issues with the surface, or any difficulties during assembly. Experiences with the different versions of the Hemnes desk are also very welcome. The goal is to get a well-informed assessment of durability and practical usability. Thanks in advance for your help!

A small tip: If the drawers stick, applying a bit of wax to the runners often helps.

Thank you for the helpful tips. I will check the drawer slides and also pay more attention to the care of the surface. Hopefully, I can at least slow down the chipping.

One last question: Does anyone have experience with the changes made to the Hemnes desk over the years? Have materials or the construction been improved or worsened? This could be relevant to the reported issues.

Product maintenance at Ikea seems to be mostly incremental. In recent years, some screws have been replaced by others, and small components modified slightly. Fundamental issues, such as the plastic drawer slides or delicate surfaces, have remained unchanged. Material improvements are hardly noticeable.

I can confirm that. For me, the desks from 2015 and 2017 hardly differ in construction.

It is also important not to expose the wood surface to direct sunlight and moisture to prevent swelling and discoloration.
