surfer70-128 Feb 2015 15:48Hello everyone
A quick question upfront: What certifications or licenses does a person need to perform electrical work?
1) General work on the household electrical system, such as installing outlets, setting up air conditioning units (so, not just plugging a toaster into a socket)
2) If this is something different:
Connecting an inverter (from a photovoltaic system) to the house wiring and power grid. (This is not about the grid feed-in approval by companies like Axpo, but the actual connection.)
We recently had a renovation done. Unfortunately, the construction company hired an external individual to carry out some electrical work on the house. It seemed about as professional as if I had asked a "friend" to do it. Since we paid a significant amount for the entire project and there are now some defects, this needs to be fixed. But I want to make sure that the work is done only by someone who has the necessary certifications or licenses.
I hope this is the right place to ask and I look forward to your experiences.
Thank you and best regards
Felix

Hi,
That’s really frustrating and would drive me crazy. Anyone working on electrical systems needs to be a qualified professional. At minimum, a skilled tradesperson certification is required. The person responsible for inspecting and approving these electrical systems must also hold a master electrician certificate.
However, the EU has caused some confusion, and the standards are not consistent everywhere. But here, the rules are clear.
Just talk to the construction manager—they should be familiar with their certifications.
Good luck.

The installation of electrical wiring is done by trained electricians, who are skilled workers with formal training. In our country, there is also an installation electrician who can perform certain tasks.

In any case, the final connections must be done by specialists in their respective fields. It is fine if only the cables are laid by assistants, which is often the case in new constructions. However, these people are not allowed to make the connections or carry out the final inspections.

However, there are still regulations in place, and the company risks getting into trouble. Electrical wiring is closely scrutinized.
In the past, there have already been several issues. I would want to see the electrician’s certification from the company. If they refuse, then something is suspicious about the matter.
