Hello everyone,
I recently installed some Ikea Metod drawers, but I’m disappointed with the noise when opening and closing them. What bothers me most are the rattling sounds that occur when operating the drawers – especially annoying in the mornings. I suspect it’s related to the runners or the drawer materials.
What specific measures or improvements do you know to make Ikea Metod drawers quieter? Are there particular dampers, alternative slides/runners, silicone pads, or lubricants that noticeably reduce the noise level? Or do you have experience with simple tricks that help muffle the sounds?
I would appreciate tips that provide long-term and practical solutions.

I am very familiar with the loud rattling noise – it was really annoying, especially when others were sleeping in the room. Attaching special damping strips to the drawers helped in my case. However, it requires a bit of patience to install. It almost feels like a small DIY project, but it is definitely worth the effort.
I completely understand the problem; metal on metal often produces an unpleasant noise. Safe solutions are padding strips made of foam rubber or felt placed between drawers and the cabinet. Simply stick thin strips on to reduce friction and noise. It is important that they are not too thick, otherwise the drawer may jam.
Hello Yusuf,
I would like to point out that Ikea Metod drawers generally come with soft-close fittings, which help reduce noise. If your drawers do not have a soft-close function, the retrofit kit is worthwhile, as it is relatively affordable and easy to install.
Additionally, you can carefully clean the drawer slides and lightly lubricate them (for example, with a Teflon spray) to minimize friction and thus noise. Be sure not to use oily lubricants that attract dust.
As an extra measure, felt or foam strips applied to the contact points between the drawer and the cabinet are a simple but effective way to reduce rattling noises.
If you like, I can provide you with a step-by-step guide for retrofitting and maintenance.

Hello everyone! 🤗
I attached a small rubber pad to the contact areas of my drawers. It costs almost nothing and makes a noticeable difference – the drawers slide more smoothly, and the rattling is gone. If you listen carefully, you can really hear the difference.
Additionally, soft dampers at the stops add a bit more comfort – almost like a quiet "thud" instead of a loud "bang" 😄
