Hello everyone,

I removed my laminate flooring and now plan to glue down parquet. In the area around the door frame, there is still a layer on the screed that is already crumbling or easily breaking off in pieces. It can be easily removed with a chisel. What is this layer? Why was this material applied around the door area? Can this layer be removed, or does it possibly serve sound insulation purposes?

Hello questioner.

I only noticed your question today.
What you photographed between the door frames is joint compound that had run out from the surface of the adjacent room during the large-area surface filling process.
It can be removed, as it serves no purpose.
Ideally, this should have been done back then when the joint compound was applied.
