We are almost finished with our outbuilding now. We are considering what to do as a base edge at the bottom of the walls in the areas that won’t be paved (about 50%).

Normally, a gravel drainage edge would be common. However, I’m unsure if the effort is really necessary. The bricklayer mentioned something about "edging stones," but I can’t really imagine what that means.

What have you done in similar situations, and does anyone know of other options? Does anyone have lawn right up to the base of the wall? If so, how is the wall protected? Any pictures?

...because they still look quite white. I have had experience with moss and algae myself.

That's right, we've discussed this topic here before. So far, nothing is visible yet, but I have to say that it has been quite dry here in recent months, mostly just heat.

If you have algae, spray it with Schuroco Moos weg. What works on gravestones also works on gravel. I love this stuff; it even keeps teak decks on boats free of moss. It has a long-lasting effect. Karsten

Here is our version with granite. Taken shortly after the rain. Moss should be cleanable with a pressure washer if the stones are large enough. I just noticed that the gravel has settled a bit. I’ll need to top it up again.

Wow, that’s quite a lot of paving stones, especially with the driveway further back. How much did you pay for paths and similar work?
