ElluelHello everyone,
I am planning to transport some furniture pieces from the Ikea Brimnes series soon, but I have some concerns about the best way to transport them by car. The individual parts are relatively flat when packed, but their size (for example, 120x50x10cm (47x20x4 inches) for some boards) and combined weight can still make them quite cumbersome. My specific question is: What is the best way to transport Ikea BRIMNES furniture in a car if you don’t have a van or a trailer?
In particular, I am interested in:
- How do you securely and space-efficiently fit the pieces inside a passenger car?
- Are there any practical tips to avoid scratches or damage during transport?
- Do you use any specific aids (such as blankets, tie-down straps) or assistance when loading and unloading?
Thank you in advance for your experiences and tips!

Ratchet straps can help secure the parts in place. Open all doors to maximize space and airflow.
Basically, the question is quite valid because the "best" method depends heavily on the type of vehicle and the furniture pieces.
I would also recommend measuring the furniture pieces and comparing them carefully with the interior dimensions before loading, and considering whether some parts can be disassembled or at least removed. Using tie-down straps to secure the load is sensible, but adequate padding is important, especially since melamine-coated boards like BRIMNES are prone to scratching. Another suggestion is to use a blanket or tarp cover to protect against moisture from shoes or rain.

Great topic! I also transported my BRIMNES furniture last year using just a station wagon without a trailer. The important thing is to have two to three helpers – loading will be easier, and you can avoid damage to the edges.
Absolutely! I used thick wool blankets and wrapped everything carefully. Ratchet straps hold the pieces firmly in place so nothing slides around. One more tip: if possible, place the boards flat rather than upright – this way the weight is better distributed and the risk of them tipping over is reduced. Good luck, it will definitely work!

One more note: Only by placing them flat can you better check that all corners are supported, which minimizes point loads that could cause dents or even cracks.
My conclusion: With proper preparation, a well-organized car, and aids like blankets and ratchet straps, transporting the BRIMNES furniture in a regular passenger car is quite feasible – but a bit of planning is essential.
