Hello everyone,

I currently have a specific issue with the metal handles on my Ikea Metod kitchen fronts. These are matte black metal handles that have gradually become increasingly dirty over time, mainly due to fingerprints, grease, and dust. I want to clean the handles without damaging the surface coating or the material.

Since my kitchen features many sensitive surfaces, it is especially important to find a cleaning method or solution that effectively removes dirt while being gentle and not causing scratches.

Does anyone have experience or tips on the best way to clean Ikea Metod metal handles? Are there any suitable products or methods that have proven effective?

Thank you for your help!

I would start with a damp microfiber cloth, which is often sufficient. If there are greasy residues, add a few drops of dishwashing detergent to the water, but not too much, otherwise it will become slippery. Then dry thoroughly.

Hello gibanau,

I understand your concern about the coating well. Metal handles in the Ikea Metod series are usually powder-coated or have a matte finish and are sensitive to harsh cleaners. My recommendation:

- Use lukewarm water with a mild dish soap.
- Use a soft, clean microfiber cloth that won’t scratch.
- Avoid foaming or very abrasive cleaning agents, as they can damage the surface.
- For stubborn stains, you can try a mixture of water and a little vinegar, but use sparingly and test first in an inconspicuous area.

After cleaning, always wipe down with clean water and dry thoroughly to prevent water spots. Please do not use steel wool or rough sponges, as these will definitely cause damage.

Hope this helps you.

If you have tougher dirt, try using a toothbrush with a little dish soap on the surface. This allows you to reach small joints as well.

To clean Ikea Metod metal handles effectively, it is important to consider the material properties. They are made of powder-coated metal, meaning aggressive chemicals can damage the protective layer.

I recommend the following approach:

- Use lukewarm water combined with a neutral dish soap.
- Clean the handles with a microfiber or soft cotton cloth.
- Avoid abrasive sponges or cleaning products containing solvents.
- For stubborn deposits, apply a diluted vinegar solution (maximum 10%) briefly, do not soak, then rinse thoroughly.
- Immediately dry the handles to prevent water spots or limescale buildup.

Avoid using harsh cleaners to protect the powder coating, as they can cause damage and lead to corrosion.

Exactly, I agree with that. Also, it’s best to wipe more frequently so that dirt doesn’t stick for long. For dust removal, a dry cloth is often sufficient.
