Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an IKEA Metod kitchen and want to clean the fronts as effectively as possible without damaging the material or surface. Our surface is matte white painted, and I have read that some cleaning products can either leave streaks or damage the paint.

I am mainly interested in:
- Which cleaning products are safe and effective for IKEA Metod fronts?
- What is the best way to remove stains and grease?
- Are there any specific things to avoid, such as certain sponges or chemicals?

Thank you in advance for your experiences and recommendations!

Does anyone have experience with how to avoid this in the long term?

Long-term care is essential for painted surfaces. Avoid aggressive cleaners and make sure not to rub the surfaces dry when dust is present, as this can cause microscopic scratches.

Regular cleaning with a mild soap solution (dish soap + water) followed by immediate drying is sufficient.

If you want to build up a protective layer, you could lightly apply furniture wax or a specialized paint care product, but it’s best to test it first on a small, inconspicuous area.

This way, you protect the surface over the long term.

Abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals should be avoided, as they can damage the paintwork.

That makes sense and matches my research. Therefore, I specifically looked for alternatives that are effective but not aggressive. Are there any experiences with cleaning using vinegar water or alcohol? I was told that could dull the gloss and thus ruin the surface – can anyone speak from reliable experience?

I would definitely not recommend using vinegar water or alcohol-based cleaners on IKEA Metod fronts. These types of cleaners can noticeably damage the paint layer, often causing dull spots or uneven discoloration.

Instead, I suggest:

- Cleaning with mild dish soap and warm water
- Naturally polishing with a dry, soft microfiber cloth

If glass cleaner or alcohol-containing products have been used by mistake, it is advisable to gently wipe the surface with clean water immediately afterward and dry it quickly.

Also: Never use abrasive sponges or brushes, as the scratches they cause are very noticeable on matte finishes.

I can confirm this. I have worked with similarly lacquered surfaces and can confirm that acidic or alcohol-based cleaners can cause damage.

For removing grease or fingerprints, I always use a mild, pH-neutral dish soap in lukewarm water and soft cloths. After cleaning, always dry the surface thoroughly – this is really important for the durability of the front.

If stubborn stains do appear, I try using a damp cloth with gentle pressure instead of resorting to chemical cleaners.

For example, are there any experiences with cleaning using vinegar water or denatured alcohol?

Vinegar water and denatured alcohol are not recommended. The acid in vinegar and the alcohol in denatured alcohol can damage both matte and glossy lacquered surfaces permanently.

This often results in irreversible loss of gloss or discoloration. Users should instead stick to mild cleaning agents with a neutral pH, specifically designed for painted kitchen surfaces.

In summary: mild soapy water, a microfiber cloth, followed by wiping and drying, are the best methods.
