TonauI am facing the challenge of installing several Ikea PAX wardrobes in my apartment with sloped walls. My questions are: What is the best way to adapt the IKEA PAX furniture to different slopes without unnecessarily losing storage space? Which fastening options and installation methods are recommended specifically for sloped walls to ensure stability and safety? Are there any practical tips or accessories to achieve a straight and sturdy assembly despite the slopes? I look forward to feedback and experiences so that I don’t have to improvise and can complete the installation neatly and sustainably.
Great topic, Tonau! I had exactly the same problem with my PAX wardrobes under the sloped ceiling. 😊 It’s best to measure the slope very precisely at several points, as small differences can affect the entire installation! I then used cut pieces of MDF panels to fill the gaps between the wardrobe and the wall. You can use corner brackets or metal angles to securely attach the wardrobes to the slope. Caution: Never screw only into the back panel, as it cannot support the weight! If you attach the wardrobes to the ceiling or an adjacent straight wall, everything will be properly stable. Good luck, you can do it!!
Hello Tonau, I’m happy to provide you with a detailed answer. First of all, it is important that cabinets are always securely mounted to load-bearing walls. In apartments with sloped ceilings, this usually means either attaching them to an adjacent straight wall or constructing suitable supports. It is advisable to fit the cabinet as close as possible to the slope, which means cutting it individually or using side fillers. To minimize loss of storage space, shelves can be cut to size and cabinet doors ordered to measure. For installation, it is recommended to connect the cabinets to each other after mounting them to the wall; this creates a stable unit and better distributes the load. I would also suggest leveling the cabinet base (the bottom) if the floor is uneven. Accessories from IKEA itself or professional wood cutting services can significantly simplify the adjustment process. Feel free to ask if you have specific measurements, then I can assist more precisely.

If the slope is made of drywall, you should definitely check whether there is a load-bearing structure behind it (e.g., a wooden subframe or metal studs). Simply screwing into the drywall is not sufficient for stability. Additionally, I recommend using special brackets or spacer strips at the top of the slope to ensure the cabinet stands firm and does not tip forward. With PAX, modularity is an advantage: with extension kits and shelves, you can cleverly accommodate the slope through careful planning without losing much storage space.

It is important to cut the cabinet to size or use appropriate filler panels. For wall mounting, heavy-duty anchors in load-bearing masonry or direct screwing into a substructure are suitable. Vertical and horizontal connections between the individual cabinet modules increase stability and prevent twisting. Using self-adhesive sealing tapes at contact surfaces can compensate for unevenness. It should be noted that mounting on slopes often requires special fittings or additional reinforcements to properly distribute the load. Simply fastening to the slope is uncommon and risky without an adequate substructure.
