chendrilon12 Apr 2021 18:23Hello everyone,
I’m planning to assemble the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe together with another person, but I want to do it as efficiently and stress-free as possible. I’m especially interested in how to best organize the assembly to avoid common pitfalls, distribute the weight properly, and coordinate the individual steps effectively.
Are there specific ways to divide the tasks that have proven successful? How can the larger parts be handled most safely, and what’s the best way to split up the screwing work?
I’m grateful for any tips that help a team work smoothly, especially during the more critical stages of the assembly.

Great question! 🙂
I assembled the Brimnes with my girlfriend and can only say: teamwork makes all the difference! Your biggest advantage is that you can hold the parts for each other and ask questions “live” if something in the assembly instructions is unclear.
My advice:
- One person holds and aligns the parts while the other tightens the screws.
- Especially with the larger side panels, make sure to prevent warping by aligning them precisely!
- Sort all screws and parts before starting; this saves a lot of time later.
- Don’t forget to take breaks, or it can get frustrating!
Good luck, you’ll manage it! 😊

Hello chendrilon,
I understand your questions and would like to help. When assembling the Brimnes, the following points are crucial:
- Step-by-step coordination: It is advisable to briefly discuss who will handle which parts before starting each new section.
- Safety: Especially when assembling heavy components like the side panels, one person should ensure stability while the other screws the parts together.
- Control of alignment: It is best to hold the large panels vertically to avoid warping, which can be visually unappealing later on.
If you clarify in advance that one person acts as the “fastener” and the other as the “positioner,” you can alternate accordingly—this saves time and reduces errors. If you have any questions about using specific tools or the assembly sequence, just ask!

My tip: One person holds and aligns, the other tightens the screws.I would like to add to this tip and outline a brief step-by-step guide that is very helpful when assembling the Brimnes with two people:
- Preparation: Sort all parts by type and quantity. Place screws, dowels, and other small components in separate containers to keep everything organized.
- Assembling the side panels: One person holds the side panel steady while the other inserts dowels and screws. This helps prevent misalignment.
- Attaching the back panel: This is the stage where clear communication is important to ensure the back panel fits precisely and no material gets bent.
- Drawer boxes: You can divide the work here – one person assembles the drawer sides, while the other attaches the bottom panels.
A common mistake I often see is tightening the screws too early before everything is properly positioned. It’s better to screw loosely at first and tighten firmly at the end.
If you like, I can also provide a list of the most important tools and their uses for assembling the Brimnes.

If you clearly define one person as the “fastener” and the other as the “positioner” beforehand, you can alternate accordingly – this saves time and reduces mistakes. This is a well-formulated, practical recommendation that I fully support. Dividing the tasks not only improves efficiency but also prevents physical fatigue.
Additional advice regarding alignment:
- Use a spirit level if possible to align the fronts precisely.
- Regularly check the distance to walls or adjacent furniture to avoid space issues.
On the technical side:
- Ensure all connections are properly and fully screwed before standing the cabinet upright.
- Heavy parts should always be moved together by both people to prevent damage to components and spinal strain.
