Hello everyone, I am planning to get an Ikea Pax wardrobe and am looking for the best layout that is as flexible as possible and can optimally accommodate both hanging clothes and folded items. It is important to me that there are enough rods for shirts and jackets, as well as plenty of shelves or drawers for sweaters, t-shirts, and accessories. Which combinations or internal fittings have worked best for you when it comes to organizing the wardrobe so that you can quickly find what you need in the morning and keep it tidy in the long term? I would appreciate any practical tips and specific suggestions, possibly including advice on how to arrange everything most effectively, such as shelf height, number of hanging rods, use of drawers versus shelves, etc.

I did it this way: plenty of space in the upper section for long garments, so jackets and coats aren’t cramped.

That’s a very helpful tip. Height is often an issue with long items. How did you adjust the spacing of the shelves to create enough smaller compartments alongside the long items?

I prefer using a combination of high and low clothes rails in the Ikea Pax system, so, for example, shirts can be hung separately from coats.

That sounds practical. Do you mean arranging the two rails one above the other or side by side?

I also have a question about drawers – are pull-out drawers really much better than fixed shelves for keeping small items like socks and underwear organized and visible?

Regarding your question, Fafeus:

The drawers in Pax are really practical because they can be pulled out easily, allowing a clear view of the contents. This has a big advantage over open shelves, where small items tend to get mixed up quickly.

For arranging the clothes rails, I recommend positioning two rails one above the other, so shorter garments hang on the top and longer ones on the bottom. This uses space more efficiently than rails placed side by side, which usually require more width.

As for height, you can adjust the shelves depending on the height of your bags and sweaters, making the space more versatile. Ikea provides standard heights here, but these can be adjusted.

I love my Pax system with integrated drawers and baskets! 😍 They are simply brilliant! For me, this makes all the difference because I never lose track while searching. I also like to install the rods one above the other, which gives you almost twice as much space!

My tip: Don’t use too many shelves; instead, go for drawers and adjustable shelves to reorganize more often! #Flexibility

Good luck with your setup!

Two levels of hanging rods one above the other, shelves for folded clothes, drawers for small items. This is the best setup.

I based it on clothing length and made the shelves adjustable so there is enough height under the long rod to hang long coats, while using shorter rods next to it for shirts or blouses.

Definitely, the drawers help a lot to keep small items organized. I can only recommend them!

In my opinion, placing the two rods one above the other is more efficient because it requires less width and creates more volume.

Important: The lower rod should be positioned low enough to allow for easy hanging and removal. Sometimes a slight adjustment is worthwhile to improve user convenience.
