Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Billy shelves from IKEA that have warped over time. Specifically, the shelves have bowed or bent due to the weight and possibly environmental factors like humidity. Does anyone have experience with how to reverse this warping or at least prevent it? Are there any special repair or prevention methods beyond just replacing the shelves? I would appreciate any tips, as I don’t want to buy a completely new unit.
Here is a brief guide on how to correct warped Billy shelves:
1. Remove the shelf.
2. Lightly dampen it with water (do not soak!).
3. Place the shelf on a flat surface, press down or weigh it down to counteract the warping.
4. Store it at room temperature in dry air for 24-48 hours.
5. After this period, thin battens or brackets can be attached to the underside to prevent future sagging.
Note: This method works for minor warping; for more severe damage, replacing the shelves is recommended.
