Hello everyone,

I’m planning to buy several pieces of furniture from the Ikea Brimnes series, but I’ve often heard that they are not always the most stable option, especially when loaded or moved frequently.

My question to you is: What hacks or improvement tips are there to significantly increase the stability of Ikea Brimnes furniture? I’m interested both in simple, quick methods and more durable, construction-related solutions.

It would be great if you could also roughly estimate the materials needed, required tools, and costs for your suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your tips!

A quick tip: If you attach gliders to the feet, you can easily move the furniture without it wobbling.

Exactly, these gliders also prevent scratches on the floor and reduce slipping, which indirectly improves stability during use.

Summary: Make the back wall thicker, add brackets, check the anchors, and reinforce the floor with molding. That will do the trick.

Thank you for your previous tips, they have been really helpful.

I am still curious if anyone has experience using wood glue in addition to screw connections on Brimnes furniture, and whether it significantly improves stability.

Or if, due to the material being particleboard, which is not very absorbent, it doesn’t make much difference? I would be interested in your opinions on this.

Wood glue can theoretically improve the strength of the joint, but its effect is limited with particleboard because this material is not very absorbent, preventing the glue from penetrating deeply.

For the Brimnes series, a properly screwed connection with metal brackets and additional reinforcement is much more effective than just gluing. Glue is more suitable as a supplementary measure and should not be used as the sole method.

I’ve tried it once – wood glue alone isn’t enough for Brimnes, but as a secondary measure combined with reinforcements, it makes the furniture a bit sturdier and it feels more solid when you move it.

In short: Wood glue is a helpful addition but not a miracle solution for Brimnes particleboard.
