Hello everyone,

I would like to start a discussion on the topic: “What good experiences have you had with Ikea Pax as a shoe cabinet?” I am planning to set up a Pax system specifically for shoe storage and would like to know how practical and suitable it is for everyday use. I am especially interested in aspects such as stability, storage capacity, handling of shelves or drawers, and how well shoes can be organized – for example, different sizes, types of shoes (sneakers, boots, sandals), and whether the system is sturdy enough for long-term use.

Who among you has been using Pax for this purpose for a longer time and can share positive experiences? Are there specific combinations or additional elements you would recommend? I’m looking forward to your tips and examples.

Thank you in advance!

Pax is versatile, but when used as a shoe cabinet, it’s important to have smart internal compartments.

Pull-out trays for flat shoes, shelves for sneakers, larger compartments for boots.

A tip: use shoe boxes as an additional organizing aid.

Honestly, Pax is like the Swiss Army knife of furniture – incredibly versatile! I converted it into a multifunctional shoe storage unit using a few clever tricks.

- Shelves fitted with thin metal strips to allow air circulation
- Drawers with plexiglass fronts, so you can quickly see inside
- For tall boots, I use simple hook rails on the inside frame instead of shelves

The result? Shoes perfectly organized, no more mess when you come in, and even guests are impressed by how tidy it looks.

But beware: if you expect to just buy one unit and have everything fit perfectly, you’ll be surprised. The flexibility also requires some time and planning – but hey, putting the puzzle together is part of the fun!
