As mentioned in another thread, during the sample selection we chose the exterior facade color (including the base) "sto 16024, HB 81, C1," described as "silicone resin, diffusely open," "scratch render K3." On the small sample card, the color appeared very warm and light, which is exactly what we wanted. However, when I searched online for this color, I only found a sample for "sto 16024" (see photo), which looks much too dark to me.

Does anyone know what the additional labels "HB 81, C1" mean and whether they indicate that the color overall is lighter than "sto 16024"? Your feedback is very important to me, as we still have the option to change the color choice at the moment. Thank you in advance. :-)

HB could stand for light reflectance value. 100 is white, 0 is black.

Colors displayed on PC monitors that, roughly speaking, cost less than 2000€ are not accurate. It’s better to get a color fan deck or sample pieces directly from the manufacturer.

An HB smaller than 30 usually requires additional measures because the area heats up too much during the summer.

C1 refers to color tone class 1; there are C1, C2, and C3.

The higher the C value, the higher the color pigment content. Dark red is C3.

It is more expensive and also fades faster. I would always choose C1. Otherwise, you have to repaint every 5 to 10 years.

Dark tones are generally problematic in many ways. In particular, light-colored bird droppings quickly make facades look unattractive.

Sides exposed to the sun will lighten. You avoid these issues with lighter colors.

Don't stress too much about the color. The color appears different on each side of the house and under various weather conditions. It also depends on the substrate.

Although I did the plastering myself, I know that some painters apply a white plaster base while others use a colored one. I would always opt for the colored plaster base. It should match the color of the finish coat.

I chose a similar color. It took weeks because of every shade nuance. I eventually just picked one. The more colors you see, the more indecisive you become.

Addendum: I recently found a photo on my phone (attached*) from the sample selection that shows the color looking much more delicate and lighter, even when accounting for different displays.

Does the value "HB 81" mean that it is the color "sto 16024" from my original post, but significantly lighter than the color labeled simply as "sto 16024"?

Sounds complicated, so let me simplify it: ;-)
Is "sto 16024 HB 81" lighter than "sto 16024"?

Thanks. 🙂
(I’m working on the color chart and similar references, but it will take some time.)

*I am still trying to upload the photo from my phone, but despite converting it, I can’t upload it as .pdf, .jpg, .jpeg, etc. If I manage to do so, I will provide it later. For all formats, I get the message: “The uploaded file was not recognized as an image.”

For comparison: RAL 1015 taxi beige has a light reflectance value of 68, RAL 9010 pure white has 85.
