Hello everyone!
I have installed several edging strips using 20x10x8cm (8x4x3 inch) paving stones.

How would you fill the joints to prevent weeds from growing through them?

Your edging is quite substantial. Did you just set it directly into the soil or onto gravel?

We also use paving stones as curbing edges. Ours are probably 24 x 16 x 6 cm (9.5 x 6.3 x 2.4 inches) and set in concrete. Joint filling? None. Outside the edge, there is bark mulch or decorative gravel depending on the area; inside is lawn. Weeds don’t grow anywhere. In some spots, just a few stubborn grass blades.

A neighbor simply pressed the stones into the soil afterward. Naturally, weeds grow through there.

I think joint filling isn’t really an option because it’s very labor intensive and tends to move to the side.

I excavated, added sand, and compacted it, then sprinkled dry concrete on top. I tapped the stone into place, and once everything was finished, I watered it with a watering can. The whole thing is solid as a rock and was done quickly.

Depending on the robotic mower, the mowing edge may need to be up to 35cm (14 inches).
We install 40cm (16 inches) mowing edges. These are embedded in concrete. There should be minimal vegetation growth there.

Unfortunately, weeds always grow because they come from above, not through the concrete. However, filling the joints with mortar does help.
