Hello everyone,
I am planning to install carpet flooring in my daughter's bedroom... Is that a good idea, or should I maybe reconsider?

Allergiker24 Nov 2010 09:23I have to be honest, as someone with allergies, I’ve had much better experiences with carpet. For example, with laminate flooring, if you don’t vacuum thoroughly every day, loose dust accumulates quickly, and this dust tends to become airborne much more easily than the dust trapped in carpet fibers. There are now even special carpets designed specifically for allergy sufferers.
It also depends on how the heating situation is in your home. I once had an apartment where the laminate floor was so cold that the children wouldn’t have been able to play on it without a carpet underlay.

The vast number of possible allergic reactions arising from the reaction potential of all possible users combined with the variety of substances present in carpet flooring is neither foreseeable nor definable, let alone controllable. Therefore, a general statement on this topic is untenable.
The only valid statement regarding this matter is that carpet flooring is the most suitable floor covering for house dust allergy sufferers. This is professionally supported and scientifically proven. However, this is entirely different from a general claim of “suitability for allergy sufferers.”
The particular suitability of carpet flooring for house dust allergy sufferers is not dependent on the manufacturer but on the product category and therefore applies to synthetic carpets from all manufacturers, including those (which are the majority) who do not “label” this specific property and certainly not in a generalized way.

Posterika24 Jan 2011 10:42I have a huge project ahead of me, including installing new flooring throughout the entire upper floor of the house (about 100 sq meters (1,076 sq ft)). After considering all the important factors for me
- cost
- cleaning (vacuuming only is quicker than vacuuming AND damp mopping)
- durability and resistance
- aesthetics (consistent throughout all rooms, can be covered with rugs, neutral color...)
I decided to do it the same way as in my previous house (which I never regretted):
I am going with good old needle felt carpet, which now comes in many interesting styles. However, I will choose a simple dark gray version, a roll 4 meters (13 feet) wide. Note: From my experience, the seller may resist a bit because their profit margin is small... In my case: 8.90 euros per meter, installation 4.50 euros. The floor will be glued down, providing decades of peace of mind. No dents, very easy to clean, and as durable as almost nothing else.
This applies only to the secondary rooms on the upper floor; downstairs I prefer parquet and tiles.
Best regards
E.

Hello!
Carpet flooring has a big advantage: you don’t see the dirt!
To better understand: just wear your underwear for at least 3 years, walk on it daily with street shoes, and occasionally blow it out with a hairdryer – or borrow a microscope.
Other floorings also have disadvantages, but without the GAG factor.

TT.

Well, you can also get carpet clean... (with the right cleaners) but then the cleaning "advantage" is lost... Regarding the topic of "no carpet," I just don't find carpet attractive, at least as a flooring option. It doesn't appeal to me. I would much rather install hardwood flooring or at least laminate!
I’m tired of seeing carpet everywhere. At least not fully laid out in every room. It really drives me crazy. However, I do like small rugs... if they look nice.
And regarding cleaning... I manage to keep our small rugs—well, I should probably call them runners—clean. There are some good cleaning products for that.
