Hello everyone,
we could have a laundry chute installed in the new house, but everyone advises against it. Most say that, compared to the benefit, it is simply too expensive. Should we listen to this advice, or what do you think?

This might be the case with the standard floor plans from major providers. However, these can also be redesigned.
With custom-designed floor plans, this requirement can be set from the very beginning.
Furthermore, it obviously depends on whether you build with or without a basement. Without a basement, you usually need additional storage space—meaning a larger utility room or an extra storage room. This space should also be sufficient to accommodate a washing machine. Our dryer is placed on top of it upstairs.

Exactly our laundry and drying habits. According to my wife, towels don’t stay as soft and fluffy when air-dried anymore – so they go into the dryer. The dryer only runs when the weather conditions aren’t suitable, or it’s too uncertain to hang the laundry outside if we have to leave the house.

Any laundry that is air-dried becomes stiff*. The exception is polyester and sportswear. For this reason, I have given up on drying laundry outside. While you can soften clothes again by ironing, I find it a waste of time – if you take the items out of the dryer promptly, you save yourself a lot of ironing.
*I have no idea how fabric softener affects this; I don’t use it because it’s not good.

That is subjective.

Hmm – I’ve never really noticed that. However, I’ve hardly experienced it differently since childhood, as laundry is usually air dried where I grew up. I’ve never felt a difference with dryer-dried clothes.
Then again, I’m a guy – and they say we’re generally less sensitive anyway.
