Hello everyone, I am currently planning the assembly of an Ikea Besta system and have noticed that the pre-drilled holes and connectors play a central role. My specific question is: What should I pay attention to regarding the pre-drilled holes and connectors to ensure a stable and precise assembly? It is important for me to understand if there are any special considerations regarding the drilling depth, hole diameter, or alignment that should not be overlooked. I am also interested in how sensitive the material around the holes is, especially if you need to assemble or adjust it multiple times. I already have basic experience with furniture assembly, but I am somewhat uncertain with Besta, as the construction sometimes seems a bit flexible. Many thanks in advance for your insights!

A brief note on pre-drilled holes and snap-fit joints with Besta: Always use the appropriate tools and avoid enlarging the holes. If the holes are too large, repair them with suitable wooden dowels. The snap-fit joints must be fitted precisely, then the screws should be tightened carefully. Do not overtighten, as the material can break easily.

A bit of patience and flexibility never hurts when working with the Besta connector. The pre-drilled holes can be like small puzzle pieces that need to fit perfectly – a little wiggle is normal, but if you hear cracking or notice significant movement, something is wrong. I would recommend working gently the first time. If done correctly, the connection should feel solid afterward. And hey, if you need to fix something later on, just remember: wood glue and a careful touch often work wonders. Like a good friendship, sometimes a repair is needed to make everything work smoothly again!

It is worth mentioning that in Besta systems, the drill holes serve not only as assembly points but are also designed for future expandability and flexibility of the units. A failure to align them correctly or accidentally enlarging the holes can trigger a chain reaction that negatively affects the entire modular structure. Therefore, my suggestion is: when making adjustments, use small wooden or plastic dowels that fit precisely into the holes to restore the original stability as much as possible. This ensures that no unwanted movement occurs and that the furniture remains sturdy over time.

If holes become worn during remodeling or adjusting, the connection can be repaired using wood glue and appropriate wooden dowels.

+1 I completely agree. I have used this method several times myself. It is important that the wood glue fully dries before putting any load on the furniture again.

Additionally, I would add that for joinery connections, sometimes the screws should not only be tightened but also installed in the correct sequence. Some parts should only be tightened after others have been secured to ensure everything stays under the intended tension.
