ᐅ What should I do if my Ikea Brimnes drawer isn’t sliding smoothly?

Hello everyone, I recently bought an Ikea Brimnes bed frame with drawers. Unfortunately, I noticed that one of the drawers no longer opens and closes properly – it sticks on one side and doesn’t slide as smoothly as it did at first. I have the feeling that the drawer slide is not running correctly anymore or might be slightly bent. Can anyone offer advice on what I can do if my Ikea Brimnes drawer isn’t working properly? What could be the causes, and how can I check or fix it myself? Thanks in advance!

I basically wonder whether Ikea uses metal or plastic runners by default in the Brimnes series.

Interesting, I often question that as well. But even if it’s plastic, these rails are basically nothing more than disposable items. Perhaps this is where Ikea’s design falls short for long-term use.

I would seriously consider replacing the sliding runners entirely with high-quality metal guides. It does cost a bit more, but afterward, you get long-term peace of mind and better durability.

The “jamming” can usually only come from material fatigue or poor fit — and with plastic, this happens faster than with metal.

Pull out the drawer, spray silicone lubricant, spread it evenly, then put the drawer back in. If it still sticks, check the screws on the slide; they might be loose.
