Hello everyone,

I have noticed that the drawer on my Ikea Brimnes bed sometimes gets stuck when pulling it out. It doesn’t happen all the time, but quite often the drawer either doesn’t open fully or gets slightly jammed when closing. The drawer isn’t overloaded and seems to be properly aligned.

My questions are: What could cause a Brimnes drawer to stick like this? Are there common installation errors I might have missed? What can I do as a non-expert to make the drawer slide smoothly again?

I look forward to any helpful tips or experiences, including advice on proper use or maintenance of the sliding mechanism.

Thanks in advance!

A common assembly error is that the rails are not installed exactly at the same height side by side, or the screws have loosened slightly. This is not unusual with Ikea furniture.

That describes it very well. I experienced the exact same issue with a Brimnes bed myself. It’s important to ensure that the rail is mounted not only at the same height but also perfectly parallel to the side of the bed. Even a slight misalignment can cause it to jam.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to check the plastic glides on the drawer itself. If they are worn or broken, they create friction and prevent smooth operation.

One last recommendation: if possible, remove the drawer, clean it, inspect all moving parts, and if necessary, order replacement plastic glides from Ikea.

In addition to the previous explanations:

If jamming continues after cleaning and readjusting, it is advisable to check the tracks for any deformations or manufacturing defects. Although rare, metal rollers or plastic guides can sometimes be damaged.

Also, ensure that the inside sides of the drawers do not rub against the bed frame. Especially in slightly more humid environments, particle board can warp slightly.

If mechanical interventions do not help, contacting Ikea customer service is recommended; Brimnes is a commonly sold model, and replacement parts are generally available.

In short: Usually the drawer isn’t properly aligned in the track, screws are loose, or the runner is dirty!

Keep it simple: Take the drawer out, clean everything, tighten the screws, apply silicone spray, put it back in, and you’re done!

You can definitely handle this—don’t give up 🙂!
