Good morning everyone, I am currently exploring ways to easily and effectively upgrade Ikea Hemnes furniture. I am particularly interested in DIY methods that don’t require extensive prior knowledge but still deliver aesthetically pleasing results. For example, ideas related to surface treatments, new handles, paint finishes, or combinations with other materials would be of great interest. Are there any proven tips or technical tricks that can make the Hemnes series look more customized and high-quality? I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

I wonder, though, how stable the furniture remains when sanding Hemnes pieces or using veneer foil.Hemnes furniture is mostly made of solid pine wood, which is sturdy. Sanding does not affect stability as long as you don’t sand too deeply. Veneer foil is only superficial and also does not impact load-bearing capacity. Protective coatings are generally recommended, as they reduce moisture and wear.

Sanding does not affect stability as long as you don’t go too deep.Thank you very much, that clears up a lot of concerns. Are there any recommendations regarding suitable abrasives and grit size? I would prefer not to damage the surface too much, but the piece of furniture should also show a noticeable change.
