Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the installation of my new Ikea Metod kitchen and am looking for practical DIY tips to make the assembly process easier. I am especially interested in how to avoid common pitfalls and whether there are any specific tools that can significantly simplify the assembly. Do you have experience with cabinet adjustments, optimal door alignment, and the correct installation of accessories such as drawer slides or lighting systems? I want to avoid any risk of instability or functional issues. Therefore, I would appreciate comprehensive advice and possibly some tricks for efficient and long-lasting installation.

Which tools have you planned to use so far?

I have a cordless drill with adjustable torque, a spirit level, and a set of various screwdrivers. In addition, I plan to get a drill with a hole saw attachment to cut the openings in the countertop myself. It’s still an open question whether I should use the mounting hardware that comes with the drawer slides and fronts or if there are better recommended alternatives.

The open question is whether I should rely on the included fasteners for the drawer slides and fronts or if there are recommended alternatives.

Usually, the fasteners provided with Ikea Metod are sufficient, especially when installed correctly. An alternative might be using stronger or higher-quality screws if greater load capacity is needed or if the material has already experienced some wear. It is also advisable to use small washers when inserting screws into particleboard to protect the material and increase stability.

Additionally, when assembling, check that the drawer slides are perfectly parallel. This greatly reduces the need for later adjustments and improves the lifespan of the mechanism.
