ᐅ What features did you include in your house, and what did you decide to leave out?

Hello,

When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget. Some wishes get dropped along the way. But certain small luxuries or nice features are important to you, even if they are not strictly necessary, and you end up including them anyway.

For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. However, we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.

I would love to hear what you have given up and what you managed to include.

Best regards

@willWohnen:
Although I have spent some time browsing this forum, we made a mistake in the floor plan by placing the staircase in the entrance area. We didn’t think it through early enough.
In one of the apartment blocks, I saw a floor plan with a really nice concrete staircase. I just liked it. I’m not sure if it has significant advantages or disadvantages.

As a small “make-up,” we will stain the staircase instead of using beech wood. I’m not particularly fond of beech.

Cheers, torsan

@torsan: Hmm, I didn’t quite follow 100%. You would have preferred the staircase to be in the living area? In the entrance area, well, that’s also quite common, right?
We didn’t want the staircase in the living area. It also transmits noise more strongly to the upper floor. What if someone is still sitting downstairs with friends, and another person has already gone to bed upstairs – then the person sleeping might want a glass of milk or something but doesn’t dare to go downstairs. That’s the kind of scenario I imagine.

A steel staircase definitely doesn’t make noise and is more durable than wood.

Exactly @ willWohnen, without compromising on openness.
Torsan, for this reason, we changed the staircase run from a quarter-turn to a half-turn staircase so that it is not located in the entrance area. I actually only realized this here in the forum, even though I've only been here for a short time.

Oh, by entrance area you mean right next to the front door, now I understand.

I believe torsan is referring to a staircase located directly next to the front door. The issue raised here concerns the dirt tracked in during winter, which the kids have to walk on with socks if the staircase leads straight up from the entrance.

Yes. Exactly!
