ᐅ What features did you include in your house, and what did you decide to leave out?

Hello,

When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget. Some wishes get dropped along the way. But certain small luxuries or nice features are important to you, even if they are not strictly necessary, and you end up including them anyway.

For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. However, we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.

I would love to hear what you have given up and what you managed to include.

Best regards

If it works out like that, it’s definitely great. We have placed our order now... I’m curious to see if it turns out to be a bad decision.

We also tried lying down, so we chose a shower base with a length of 180cm (71 inches). We have a centrally located drain but made sure there is enough standing space on one side.

This way, when two people are bathing (which works well), one can sit comfortably, and alone it’s perfect for my height of 165cm (65 inches). I don’t slip.

Therefore, I would always recommend trying it out beforehand, if possible.

A double bathtub was actually our first preference. Then we thought about how often the "feature" of bathing together is really used. We quickly decided it would be better to buy a tub designed for one person to lie down comfortably—that is, with the drain on one side and the other side properly sloped.

We often take baths together. We chose a trapezoid-shaped bathtub that allows two people to lie side by side.

Size was also a bit of an issue for us. I am quite short at 1.60 m (5 feet 3 inches), and my husband is considerably taller at 1.85 m (6 feet 1 inch). This made selecting the bathtub somewhat challenging, so we ultimately decided on the standard length of 1.75 m (5 feet 9 inches) to ensure we can both bathe reasonably comfortably. One side of the tub slopes, meaning one side is shorter than the other. That’s why we chose this particular bathtub. This way, we can both bathe fairly well without me feeling submerged or my husband only being halfway in the water. There was no better solution. We basically have this sizing issue everywhere—toilet seat height, washbasin height, kitchen countertop height, and so on... well, that can’t be changed.
