ᐅ What features did you include in your house, and what did you decide to leave out?

Hello,

When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget. Some wishes get dropped along the way. But certain small luxuries or nice features are important to you, even if they are not strictly necessary, and you end up including them anyway.

For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. However, we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.

I would love to hear what you have given up and what you managed to include.

Best regards

We are skipping the garage for now, but installing walk-in showers on both floors and having hardwood floors everywhere except in the hallway, wet areas, and kitchen, plus a bit more electrical work (recessed lighting in the floorboards and bathrooms)… those are our little luxury touches in the house.

Are walk-in showers and recessed lighting really considered luxury???

I also really like the beechwood stairs, but my husband requested them. I don't mind which wood is used, as long as it's wood.
I think I heard that a concrete staircase is more affordable, but I'm not sure.

We were told that there isn’t much difference in cost. Just the tile installation using the thick-bed method alone cost us 2000.- plus materials.

Luxury is defined differently by everyone – and that's perfectly fine.

I find it even more interesting that luxury is always attributed a different value... one person enjoys the golden faucet every morning, while another doesn’t even know the eye color of his wife, let alone the color of the faucet.

@BeHaElJa Now ask yourselves what kind of faucets your friends have installed or what color your neighbors' window sills are.

Chances are, no one knows.

Still, people buy what they like even though no one else pays attention except themselves.

Faucets are, of course, only Hans Grohe, except in the kitchen where there is a Kludi tap.

Window sills are granite; I know what they look like, but I don’t know the exact color name...
