ᐅ What features did you include in your house, and what did you decide to leave out?

Hello,

When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget. Some wishes get dropped along the way. But certain small luxuries or nice features are important to you, even if they are not strictly necessary, and you end up including them anyway.

For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. However, we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.

I would love to hear what you have given up and what you managed to include.

Best regards

Switzerland or Bavaria?
Sounds prestigious..

The house is located in Switzerland. In Bavaria, the family home that I will take over is standing, and the second floor will soon be renovated, featuring a small apartment as a holiday retreat.
There are moments when you feel alone wandering through the hallways and floors... but that feeling disappears for sure when I’m sitting in shorts in front of the house with a whiskey and the sausage is sizzling like crazy on the grill. Silly thoughts gone again, I’m not married after all—what a lucky guy I am!
All that’s really missing is a loyal and sarcastic soul like Berta as a housekeeper...

@Timbo You definitely live differently from the average person. I actually laughed at the bed in the home theater room. Some things I definitely find enviable, but I wouldn’t want to do the cleaning either. May I ask what kind of collection you are keeping in the hobby room?

Well, in Switzerland, hopefully objects made of steel and wood with a touch of gun oil.
Having a dedicated gun room was once on my wish list as well, but it’s just not feasible. So, the conventional safe will have to suffice.

Watches: a normal amount
Weapons: many
Knives: very many (hundreds…)
Precious metals: not that many yet
Things like that, basically

In my small apartment, I had all this stuff scattered around. For example, 50kg (110 lbs) of ammunition was stored near the shoes under the coat rack due to lack of space. Now I have many safes… including quick-access safes in certain places in the house for personal protection.

That reminds me of something else I would like: a private shooting range at home in the basement. Unfortunately, it’s a few meters (yards) too short for that…
