ᐅ What features did you include in your house, and what did you decide to leave out?

Hello,

When planning and building a house, you focus on the essentials and the budget. Some wishes get dropped along the way. But certain small luxuries or nice features are important to you, even if they are not strictly necessary, and you end up including them anyway.

For us, a heated conservatory was an unattainable dream. However, we treated ourselves to tiled, walk-in showers, even though they take up more space.

I would love to hear what you have given up and what you managed to include.

Best regards

@ypg @Masipulami That’s really a good idea with the media switch; at the moment, I walk around in the evenings turning off devices on standby. This tip might actually come just in time for us, as the electricians are currently working through the first rooms.

Maybe worth mentioning:
We’ve had one externally accessible outlet installed in both the garage and on the terrace, each switchable from inside, and a motion sensor at the entrance area.
There are already five cables laid in the garden, all of which can be controlled from inside.

@Masipulami Yes, that’s good, but we have already considered that. I think we still need to decide where to control the outdoor outlets – we would have one at the front of the house and one at the back near the kitchen. I thought it would be enough if both could be switched on simultaneously from the utility room when needed. Are they switchable separately in your case, and also from the closest room to each outlet?

@Masipulami Ok, then I'll probably do that as well. I still need to discuss it with my husband and the electricians.

Location of the switch in our house: in front of the staircase. However, in the standard floor plan, it also makes sense to place it near the exit of the living area.

That is exactly where it is located in our case.

Our electrician, together with my husband, suggested a different solution. At first, I wasn’t too happy, but it’s not bad at all: in addition to the outlets at the TV cabinet, a surge protection strip will be added. A switch to turn it on and off, and that’s it.

Regarding the cistern, I have seen some very nice cisterns designed for above-ground use.
